Fire Extinguishers:
Before fighting a fire, be sure that...
- The fire is small enough to be controlled by the extinguisher
- You have been trained to operate the extinguisher
- Everyone is leaving the building and someone has sounded the alarm or called 911
- You have a clear escape route in case the fire gets worse
- You know what is burning and you have the right extinguisher for the job
Class A: Fires involve ordinary combustibles, such as wood, cloth, and paper
Class B: Fires involve flammable liquids, such as gasoline, oil, paints, and solvents
Class C: Fires involve energized electrical equipment, such motors, power tools, and computers
Class D: Fires involve combustible metals, such as magnesium and sodium
Class K: Fires involve cooking oils, such as used in deep fat frying
